Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Memorial Day weekend I visited Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Instead of doing one massive post about BBG, I will break it up and focus on my favorite sections and of course share pics.  Stay tuned!

The weather has finally decided to stay warm so I will be exploring and blogging  more.

Restaurant Review: The Crabby Shack

I’ve wanted to try this restaurant for quite some time and the opportunity finally presented itself to indulge in some delicious seafood at The Crabby Shack in Crown Heights. Thank you opportunity!

The price for seafood as a whole can be a bit expensive so while I was slightly taken aback by the prices, I was not completely surprised. Instead, I opted to stick with the listed specials. I ordered the tacos  (one crab, one shrimp) and a watermelon lemonade and my companion ordered a crab roll with chips and a drink.

This is really a no frills spot so if you’re expecting a waitstaff stop now. There isn’t one. You order at the counter and when your order is ready your name is called you go pick up your food and you dive into some magnificent crab, shrimp, or lobster and you eat.

The tacos came with plenty of shredded cabbage, avocado, a bit of cilantro, and your choice of sauce. Chipotle mayo for me please. There are two other options but I can’t remember what those were.
The serving size wasn’t large by any means but it was delicious and well seasoned. Bland seafood is the worst so I’m glad that wasn’t the norm here.

My partner ordered a crab roll. I was told this was scrumptious as well but it was served on a hot dog bun. Is that normal? I’ve never had a crab or lobster served that way.

Those chips (up) are the best. Kettle chips aren’t normally my thing but I couldn’t put the bag down.  My lemonade was also pretty much just a cup of ice by the time I got the food.
Besides the food, I really liked the decor. I love when a building has a theme and it is consistent throughout.   There was a bright nautical theme in blue, red, and white with anchors, ropes, and other nautical inspired items.

Would I go here again? Yes! The staff was friendly, the food was great, and the place was clean.
The Crabby Shack is located in Crown Heights at 613 Franklin Avenue. By train take the 3 or 4 to the Franklin Avenue stop. Click here to check out the restaurant’s website and full menu.

Extended Weekend Outing: The West Indian Day Parade

image

I’m not sure what the future will bring but if I’m in Brooklyn on a Labor Day I will happily be on the parkway getting my whole entire life listening to music, watching the trucks and masqueraders, and enjoying delicious food.

image

I didn’t stay long. I made two mistakes.  One, I didn’t eat much before I left and two, I didn’t drink much before I left.

image

This resulted in me almost passing out in ninety degree weather among what had to be at least a million people. Please don’t be like me.

All in all, great time. Until next year.
